Colossus at Savage Race Chicago and My Mental Health Journey

By |2017-07-31T22:01:33+00:00August, 1, 2017|Fitness, Mental Health|0 Comments

The hardest thing I’ve ever done was admitting I wasn’t okay and the emotional pain I was feeling wasn’t normal. It was calling a psychiatrist and asking for help. It was showing up to my first appointment, taking my medications and continuing to take my medications when the side effects felt like too much to bear. It was being strong when I was tired at hell. It was reaching out to people I trusted and being honest with them about how I felt on any given day. It was crying my eyes out, opening myself up and letting them see [...]

How Exercise Helps Me Cope With Depression and Anxiety

By |2017-06-07T22:13:43+00:00June, 2, 2017|Fitness, Mental Health|0 Comments

I’ve been going through a rough patch lately, and I’m experiencing one of the worst waves of depression I’ve had in a long time. I didn’t even realize it was depression at first because it wasn’t the “struggling to get out of bed” sadness I’m used to feeling. Instead, I was happy, bubbly and confident during work – always laughing and joking with my boss during our morning calls and being my usual sassy self in group chats. But I was struggling to focus on my work, there was this pit in my stomach that just wouldn’t go away and [...]

10 Helpful Fitness Tips for Beginners

By |2015-12-08T16:56:33+00:00December, 11, 2015|Fitness|0 Comments

With the end of the year upon us, now is the time that everyone starts making their New Year's resolutions. This probably goes without saying, but the most popular New Year's resolutions are related to health and fitness. It's not surprising, as the new year is the perfect time to kick start a new fitness routine. No matter how excited you, there will probably come a time when you start feeling a bit nervous (and intimidated) about your new adventure. Maybe it's been a decade since you've been to the gym, or maybe you're just intimidated about trying something you've never [...]

Why I Cancelled My Beachbody Coach Account

By |2015-11-12T14:30:08+00:00November, 12, 2015|Fitness|0 Comments

I've been a Beachbody customer since 2010 when I bought the original Power 90 program by Tony Horton. I never actually completed the program, but I did use the program on and off for almost four years. Fast forward to 2014 when I was training for Tough Mudder. I was approached by a sorority sister - who is a Beachbody coach - and she suggested that I add some Beachbody programs into the mix. I bought Turbo Fire, and then a month later decided to invest in 21 Day Fix and Shakeology. Next thing you know, I signed up to [...]

My 6 Commitments for P90X3

By |2015-09-01T19:13:03+00:00September, 3, 2015|Fitness|0 Comments

Back in May, right as I was completing Insanity Max 30, I made the decision to start P90X3. I loved the transformation I made during Max 30, but I just thought that it was time to add some weight training into the mix. I know of several women who've lost a significant amount of weight with the P90X programs, so I figured "why not give it a try?" I was pumped up, did my fitness test, and I was ready to go. Five weeks after I started the program, I only completed two weeks worth of workouts. Womp womp. Even [...]

5 Meal Prep Tips for Beginners

By |2015-08-12T12:58:38+00:00August, 13, 2015|Fitness|1 Comment

The phrase “meal prep” used to terrify me. I had this vision in my head of spending hours upon hours slaving over the stove cooking all of my meals for the week. As someone who works 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday, the thought of spending half of my weekend cooking didn’t appeal to me. But you know what they say: “failing to plan is planning to fail.” It’s harsh, but it’s so true - especially when it comes to your nutrition. Although winging it may seem like the best way to handle your weekly meals, it usually leads to [...]

21 Day Fix Mistakes (And How to Avoid Them)

By |2015-07-30T12:39:14+00:00July, 30, 2015|Fitness|0 Comments

The first time I did 21 Day Fix, I hated it. I had a headache the whole time, I was always hungry, and at the end of the three weeks, I hadn't lost a single pound. I was incredibly frustrated, and I even wrote about those frustrations in a previous blog post. I swore up and down that this program didn't work, despite having multiple friends complete it successfully. And although I vowed never to do the program again, a couple of months ago, I decided to give it another try. What I realize now is that my first time [...]

Jawbone Up 2 Review and First Impressions

By |2015-05-15T21:09:18+00:00May, 11, 2015|Fitness, Reviews|0 Comments

After a disappointing experience with the Garmin Vivofit 2, I was back on the hunt for a fitness band and tracker. Naturally, I gravitated towards the two I knew the most about - Fitbit and Jawbone. I've heard mixed reviews about both bands, and I wasn't too excited at the thought of buying another mediocre fitness band. But I did my research anyway, because that's just what I do. I quickly learned that Jawbone recently revamped their entire line of fitness bands. I searched for reviews, and was pleasantly surprised to see really positive reviews about the Jawbone Up 2. It only [...]

Garmin Vivofit 2 Review

By |2015-04-19T20:59:58+00:00April, 20, 2015|Fitness, Reviews|0 Comments

When the Garmin Vivofit 2 was announced in January, I knew I had to have it. I'm late to the wearable fitness tracker trend, although I've been using a Polar watch and heart rate monitor during my workouts for over a year. I've seen friends wearing and using their Fitbits, Jawbone Ups, and Misfits, but none of them really stood out to me. And then I learned about the Garmin Vivofit 2, and I knew it had to be mine. I wanted to pre-order it but eventually decided to just wait until it was available for purchase. I checked the Garmin [...]

Insanity Max 30 Month 1 Review

By |2015-04-14T19:19:42+00:00April, 9, 2015|Fitness, Reviews|0 Comments

I completed my first month of Insanity Max 30 last week, and I figured that now is the perfect time to give my official month 1 review! About My Results I'm down 2 pounds. I didn't do a very good job eating clean and healthy, which is probably why I didn't lose more. My clothes are looser. I might need to get some new clothes in the near future. I definitely gained muscle. I'm not super toned, but I have muscle in places I didn't have muscle before. This is also probably one of the reasons I didn't lose more weight. [...]
